A SMART BOARD FOR ULLURIAQ

My name is Chelsea Vowel, and I am a teacher at the Ulluriaq Adolescent Center in Montreal.  I teach Inuit girls from Nunavik (northern Quebec) who are in the Child Welfare system and who are in Montreal under Youth Protection Orders. 

 

There are only 8 girls in the classroom at any time, but they range in age from 13-17 and there can be up to 6 different grade levels represented in the class at once.  The students can be in class for as little time as 30 days, or they can be here for a few years. 

 

Our classroom does not have any textbooks or materials and I am trying to raise funds to purchase and install a Smartboard in the classroom.  These students deserve the opportunity to access the same quality technology and programming as every other student in Quebec, but funding for such a small class is difficult to find.

 

That is where you hopefully come in!

My students will not write you letters to thank you or make you crafts to entice you to contribute.  These girls have a lot going on in their lives and the most you can expect is that they will be encouraged to become more engaged and confident in their learning.  That is after all, the real goal here.

However, Manitobah Mukluks IS willing to show you some love.  At the end of the campaign, those of you who were able to contribute $10 or more will be entered into a draw, and two of you will be slipping into Fall in high native fashion!
